Canon Lens 17mm Focal Range Head to Head

Thinking about getting either the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II or the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L – you should definitely check out this first episode of the big Canon lens comparison courtesy of the guys at slrlounge.

This video comparison by Pye from slrlounge takes a look at the two popular full frame wide angle zoom lenses from Canon. This isn’t a laboratory test but more of a real world test to look at different aspects of these two lenses and how they will effect your actual photography.

The clear winner of this current test is the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II (around $1700 at Amazon), if you are willing to shoot at slower apertures and get somewhat softer images, the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L will only set you back about half that much (or $840 on Amazon)

Below is the introduction video to this series which will cover 25 popular Canon’s lenses ranging from 17mm and up to 300mm where Pye explains a bit about the testing process and methodology as well as the rationale behind this extensive testing.
