The Lens Flipper – Change Lens in Under 4 seconds!

During Photokina 2014 we ran into a small but interesting product – the Lens Flipper, developed by the Korean manufacturer Go Wing. The guy on the booth was able to demonstrate to us how he can switch a Nikon lens in under 4 seconds – effortlessly.

We all hate to switch lenses – especially in the field. Since we know that the longer our camera stays open the more dust and dirt can enter the camera and fill our sensor. There are all kinds of techniques to switch lenses quickly (we find that another person can really help make things super fast – but you don’t always have another set of hands to help you). Here comes the simple but ingenious solution from Go Wing – a dual sided mount for Canon/Nikon and Sony (both A or E monuts).

If the video above, shot by our very own Yoni Bar-Zvi is too fast for you here is the gist – you have one lens attached to the Lens Flipper while the other on your camera. You take the lens from your camera and attach it to the open mount on the other side of the Lens Flipper and then you remove the other lens from the Lens Flipper and attach it to your camera – the  Go Wing guy did all of this  in under 4 seconds and with a bit of practice we are sure that we can do that in a similar time as well.

The Lens Flipper can be carried using a strap or even with a special clip for that strap on your backpack. It is not made for very heavy glass (don’t go attaching your 400mm f/2.8 to it) but according to Go Wing a 70-200mm should be O.K.

As for pricing – it is available in the U.S. (and a few other place around the world) for just under $90.
