The Big Studio Lighting Comparison

This extensive comparison guide video by photographer Tony Northrup takes a look at photography studio lights for every budget, comparing different brands starting from $200 entry level ones and up to professional systems costing $1,750 and more.

Getting into the world of studio lighting can be confusing – there are so many brands and so many types of light to choose from that a beginner might feel intimidated just from the sahre variety.

Northrup looks at basic, more advanced and pro level lights from 3 well known brands – Paul C. Buff (which includes the AlienBees and Einstein lights lines), elinchrom and profoto (of course you can find many other brands online including Bowens, Broncolor, Dynalite, Hensel, Photoflex, Westcott and the list goes on – we have shown videos from several of these companies on the site in the past).

If you are interested in studio lighting it’s well worth checking up one of Northrup’s previous video gear guide covering flash triggers. As for using different type of lights – make sure to watch our lighting section.
