How to Use Photoshop to Colorize a Black and White Photo

In this quick video tutorial Howard Pinsky demonstrates how to improve a rather mundane B&W image and add some colors to it.

Pinsky goes into the process of selection (which is the hard part) and coloring. He starts by converting the image into a CMYK (which tend to give better results),  continue with selection and refine selection and then use a curve adjustment layer and repeat this of all selections.

One thing we noticed in this particular image was that the clouds got an unnatural blue color together with the sky – this might require a bit more work to fix than this short video.

We have actually looked on a few occasions into adding color into B&W images including “how to add Splashes of Color in Black and White Photos in 60 Seconds using Photoshop Elements” as well as “How to Do Selective Color Manipulation in Photoshop“.
