Sharpening with a High Pass Filter in Photoshop

Glamour and fashion photographer Nino Batista decided to share his own personal sharpening method using a high pass filter in Photoshop – we take a look.

In this video Batista tries to have a good smooth sharpening (not too little not too much) and he also discusses how to sharpen selectively so that you will not add to much noise to specific areas of your image – something that a lot of people tend to miss when they add  sharpening to their images.

Finally adding sharpening blurry areas is just adding noise to your image so if you are using a mask for your sharpening (which you should) just paint those areas in black and you are set. And of course – sharpening is the final stage when you work on all the other retouches in your image and you cropped it to the final size.

We have covered different aspects of sharpening in Photoshop in the past including Ted Forbes Advanced Smart Sharpening in Photoshop, Bryan O’Neil Hughes on “How to use Filters in Photoshop” and a previous one more specifically on sharpening which is also  worth checking out.
