The Ultimate Guide To Workflow In Lightroom And Photoshop

On this video Aaron Nace from Phlearn shows how you can save time and create the best workflow for photographers for working with images on both Lightroom and Photoshop.

After you import your images into Lightroom Nace recommends creating the following 4 libraries:

Capture – where all of the RAW images from the shoot are placed. When you complete a complex shoot it is often a good idea to create subfolders in the Capture folder that describe different parts of the shoot. In this example we use both “Landscapes” and “Portraits”
Master – where your layered PSD or TIF files will go. Anytime you need to go back and make edits to the file you will be accessing images from this folder.
Output – where images are placed after editing is complete. These are the final images ready for web/print.
Select – where your selects will go, usually exported as TIFs. This will help you to organize and quickly identify the best images from the shoot as well as get them in a file format ready for editing in Photoshop.

Nace goves over the different steps each image goes from the moment you import it until its ready to be sent to print or uploaded to the web. The workflow might sound a bit complex initially (we had to listen to it twice) but if you are a professional photographer who works for clients on a regular basis and time (and organization) is essential to you you should really pay attention to this video.
