Joe McNally on Soft Directional Lighting

On this Adorama video, pro photographer Joe McNally talks about soft directional lighting.

A directional light is typically considered more harsh and so the concept of soft directional lighting might sound strange at first but on this video McNally talks about a specific lighting unit which gives relatively soft lighting and can still be considered direcional.

The Ezybox from Lastolite is a $170 softbox for hotshoe lights which has a white interior instead of the typical silver one. this was actually suggested to the company by McNally as a way of making the light softer (hance soft directional light). in the video McNally  talks about a specific photograph he did using this softbox.
