Rob Grimm Interview: Product, Food, & Beverage Photography

On this video interview Aaron Nace from Phlearn recently interviewed long time professional photographer Rob Grimm. This two part interview covers many changes that the food photography (and commercial photography as a whole) went through over the past 2 decades and in particular some of the changes introduced by the move from analog to digital.

For aspiring commercial and food photographers this interview is simply a must as Grimm touches on many important and sometime unknown aspects of the industry including working with clients, finding work, managing a successful photography business and much more.

In part two of the  interview Grimm talks more specifically about some of his work – giving up some very interesting tips regarding how specific shots were made:

  1. He knows precisely where he needs the light to succumb to his items and how to assemble a proper setup. Several of more fascinating characteristics about his setup is the polarizing channel he utilizes on the light to take out glare and the gold card he uses to bob some light into the
    dim containers of brewskie.
