Time-lapse Basics – Step By Step

On this video photographer and director Corey Rich gives an extremely useful tutorial for time-lapse photography. This guide is intended for the beginner “time-lapser” but it includes many useful tips for more experienced shooters as well.

Time-lapse photography lets you compress change which typically occur over longer time periods into a shorter video made (typically) from a large number of images. Some of the topics Rich touch upon are raw or jpeg, how many frames you need if you’re working in 24 fps or 30 fps, how to actually set the camera (he uses a Nikon D800 with a built in intervalometer).

In the past we posted a very comprehensive guide to time-lapse photography with photographer Vincent Laforet in 3 parts (the first episode in the series here and the second video here and the 3’rd can be found here).
