Tony Corbell on One Light Studio Portraits

On this video by lighting manufacturer Bowens, pro photographer Tony Corbell talks about how to maximize the use of a single light source for a simple, yet beautiful portraits.

Corbell has been working as a portrait photographer for many years. One of his recommendations which goes back to the days of Leonardo Da Vinci is to use 45 degree lighting. In this way you have your light on your model’s face coming from 45 degree angle from above and 45 degree angle from the side. this creates more shape and dimension on the fce and allows you to control the rest of the image using a reflector to fill the shadows.

We have covered several of Corbell lighting tutorials in the past which you can find here.

You can find a lot more lighting tutorials on our photography lighting section here on LensVid.
