Understanding Light And Its 4 Main Categories

In this 10 min video professional photographer Karl Taylor demonstrates how to use different forms of lighting – both outdoors and indoors. Taylor explains during the two parts of the video the basic elements of natural light deviding them into 4 categories: soft, hard, transmissive and reflective.

While the first half of the video deals more with outdoor and landscape photography, the second part shows example of indoor use of natural light (from a window) using a model.
