SIRUI 50mm Anamorphic Lens Hands on Review

Our friend and colleague Johnnie Behiri from Cinema5D had a chance to take a look at a unique lens – the SIRUI 50mm anamorphic and came back with some pretty positive impressions.

Anamorphic lenses are pretty specialized pieces of glass, most of them are quite rare and for the most part also expensive. The SIRUI 50mm Anamorphic wants to bring the Anamorphic to the masses (or at least to a much larger audience than it currently has), it comes in native Sony E, Fuji X, and MFT mounts, has 0,85m (33.4 in) close focus distance (maybe a little too long for some tasks) and weighs 560g.

The SIRUI 50mm anamorphic covers an APS-C sensor and gives the user a cinematic 2.4:1 video with a 33% increase of the horizontal field of view. The lens also comes with Nano coatings and has a front filter thread of 67mm (do note the rectangular front of the lens).

Behiri shows some examples in his video and also test sharpness and it seems to be very sharp even wide open and both the Bokeh and focus breathing seems very much controlled. SIRUI mentioned to Behiri that they will consider a wider angle version of this lens.

The new SIRUI 50mm anamorphic lens sells for $700 and will start to ship early in 2020.
