On this Canon video, part of the “Canon EOS HD Video Tutorials”, Jem Schofield talks to cinematographer Angus Oborn on the subject of follow focus systems and how to use them.
Follow focus systems allows photographers to use either conventional stills lenses or special cine (cinema) lenses and be able to control the focus (and in some cases the zoom as well) using a special external mechanism that is easier and more precise to use.
In the video Oborn demonstrates two different gears and follow focus mechanisms (although there are many more – ranging in price from a few dollars to thousands of dollars for advanced pro systems) as well as the way you use them in different types of shots with one one photographer or with an assistant pulling the focus.
We have covered follow focus units in the past which you can check here.
