During NAB 2015, Zoom showcased it’s F8 high end field recorder – over a year later the company released a 4 channel (instead of 8) recorder that has fairly similar capabilities but is almost half the price.
The new F4 looks very similar to the F8 (see review here) but the build quality is a little reduced (still very well made according to Curtis Judd who has done this first hands on.
Here are some of the specs for the new Zoom F4:
- Integrated Mixer with 4 channels
- Compatible with Optional Zoom Mics
- Resolution: 24-Bit/192 kHz
- 4 Combo XLR-1/4″ Inputs
- High-Quality Preamps with Phantom Power
- Built-In (electronic) limiters on Every Input/Output
- Easy-to-Read LCD Display (not as nice as the one on the F8 but still readable in sunlight).
- Temperature-controlled and Compensated crystal Oscillator
The new F4 will be sold for $650 (compared to the $1000 of the F8).
