Manfrotto 190 – Reinventing the Tripod

Earlier today Italian manufacturer Manfrotto announced a remake of its popular 190 line of tripods.

Manfrotto-190-3The new line has some interesting improvements over the older design including:

  • A new quick power lock (QPL) system which the company claims is strong, ultra fast and ergonomic locking system that allows for complete extension of the legs with one–hand opening.
  • Simple accessory integration – using a new plug which enables instant connection between tripod and accessories, such as LED lights for Macro Photography and VDSLR applications through arms and brackets.
  • New patented 90° column accessible with a quick ‘one finger’ operation. Both the new flat upper disk and the 4 section model have a more compact closed dimension.
  • new patented Rotating Leveling Bubble on the top of the main column.

The new line comes in 3 or 4 sections a choice of with aluminum or Carbon Fibre.

The size of the new tripods starts at 50cm (19 inch) folded up to 58 cm (22 inch) folded (depending on the model) and all open up to a height of 146cm (57 inch). As for weight the lightest is about 1.3 kg (2.95 lbs) and the heaviest is 1.8 kg (3.97 lbs).
