Zeiss Introduce the Batis AF Line of Premium Lenses for Sony FE Monut

Earlier today Zeiss introduced a new line of lenses for Sony FE (and E) mount users. The first two lenses of this line are the Zeiss Batis 25mm f2 and the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8.

Unlike the Loxia line of lenses for FE mount cameras which was introduced a few month ago, and includes manual focus lenses, the new Batis (where are they coming with these names?) are all AF lenses.

Tthe Batis also has another interesting trick up its sleeve and it is something that seems to be a first in the photography industry (at least as far as we can remember) – both Batis lenses has an OLED display that will replace the depth of field indicator and the focusing distance and can actually show all sorts of information (from the images we see that it can certainly show the focus distance and the aperture but it might not be all).

Here are some of the specs for the two new Batis lenses:

Zeiss Batis 25mm f2

  • Construction – 10 elements in 8 groups.
  • Min focusing distance – 13cm.
  • Maximum magnification – 1:5.2.
  • Mount – E-mount (FE coverage).

  • Price – just under $1300.

ZEISS Batis 2/25

Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8

  • Focal length – 85mm.
  • Aperture – f/1.8.
  • Construction – 11 elements in 8  groups.
  • Min focusing distance – 71cm.
  • Maximum magnification – 1:7.9.
  • Mount – E-mount (FE coverage).
  • Filter – 67mm.
  • Length – 105mm.
  • Weight – 475 grams.
  • Price – just under $1200.
