Behind the Magic: Shooting 250,000 images for “The Avengers”

Behind the scenes on one of the most successful Hollywood blockbusters in recent years – The Avengers.

Although roughly a third of the movie set shows New York City, very few scenes on The Avengers were actually filmed there. To create a realistic feeling ILM crew members photographed 7-miles of city streets from a variety of heights and at different times of day totaling in no less than 250,000 images! The crew  digitally recreated roughly 20 square blocks of mid-town Manhattan using a variety of techniques shown in the video and used in the finished movie.
