Wayne Lawrence: Photographing the Real Detroit

Brooklyn based photographer Wayne Wayne got an interesting assignment from National Geographic magazine to look into the different sides of the city of Detroit – this short video is a look at his results.

It is always about the people – this is the massage Lawrence is trying to convey in this video and in this photographic project. For Lawrence the human stories are key for making his pictures. Detroit is a city built on struggle – and anyplace like this you are going to find a lot of beauty and soul.

Wayne is of course not alone in his search for the real human story – Emily Ainsworth: Inside a Mexican Circus looks at real people in much the same way and you can watch many other National Geographic photographers who has unique perspective of life, photography ant the human story in our National Geographic section.
