During IBC 2023 we had a chance to talk to Karol Pietka from Irix about the company’s new Magnetic mist filters.

Irix Magnetic Filters

Last year in IBC we covered Irix Lens’ new 150mm Cine telephoto version (the original version was a macro) and the company’s new Irix Magnetic Matte Box. This year IBC Irix showcased a new 65mm T1.5 Cine currently under development (covered here) as well as some new magnetic filters.

Irix is the only company we know of that has a front magnetic attachment allowing Irix users to mount magnetic filters with no need for added adaptors. Currently, Irix has in its line ND, VND, Polarizer, light pollution, and protector filters and it has now added the new Edge MMS Black Mist SR filters (it also has some options of square filters that go along with a square magnetic holder).

Irix Edge MMS Black Mist SR

The new magnetic Irix Edge MMS Black Mist SR filters are designed to lower contrast and overall highlight intensity and reduce the visibility of skin defects when shooting portraits. They are made from high-quality reinforced tempered glass with an aluminum alloy frame and are Nano-coated with no less than 18 layers on each side with Waterproof, Oilproof, and Dustproof top layers. Irix SR series – for extraordinary resistance.

Like other Irix filters, they are compatible with Irix Cine lenses and require no extra adapters but also come in different sizes for connecting to other lenses. They come in 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 strengths.
