How to Color Landscape Photos in Photoshop

We are taking a little break from NAB 2017 (which closed last week) and getting back to some image editing and in this video Aaron Nace from Phlearn demonstrates how he colors a landscape photo in Photoshop.

This tutorial looks at landscape photos and how you can select different areas and colors and enhance them in different methods (for example if you want to a more punchy grass or a bluer sky).

Nace  start with “Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation”, keep in mind that if you change the “Hue” Slider, it will change all the colors in the image. In order to select only a specific color click on the drop-down menu (where it sais “Master.)” select the color you would like to edit and choose the Eye Dropper to fine tune the color selection and choose a color that you want to change in your image. Now you can add hue or saturation that that specific color (and you can choose other colors and do the same).

The first step was how to select and change a specific color the next step is changing the color in a specific area of your image. To do this you can use the Magic Wand Tool and click on the sky in the image (this is the example Nace choose for this demo). If the entire sky is not selected, try increasing the tolerance of the tool.

Now you can create another Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer and click on the “Colorize” box. which will enable you to choose the color of the selected area (in the case of the sky – by adjusting the Hue and Saturation sliders). Pretty straightforward, but very useful.
