How To Create A Stylized Portrait Look From Newspapers

On this video tutorial Aaron Nace from Phlearn shows how to create a portrait composite from newspapers.

This video is more fun and artistic but it can help you get some basic skills that can assist you with retouches in the future. We start with the filter gallery which is full of great ways to add style to your images. In this case we will use the “Cutout” filter to make the image look like an illustration. next Nace turn that illustration into a series of selections using the magic wand tool (make sure the “Contiguous” option is not checked).

After each selection is made, we load that selection as a layer mask on a new group and place a texture in each group, restricting their visibility to the layer mask selection. We then use levels to adjust the brightness of your texture (newspaper) layers.
