How To Mask in Adobe Photoshop

On this video tutorial, photographer Terry White gets back to basic in Photoshop and demonstrates how to use making in Adobe Photoshop.

Masking is an important feature in Photoshop for many years. The best way to think about masking is as a layer which is a transparency – you can either reveal or cover parts of anything below it using a mask depending on the color of your brush (black or white). One good tip White has in this video is to press ALT on PC or Option on MAC when you add a mask to have it black instead of white and allow you to uncover parts of the mask (using a white brush).

You can check out several more advanced videos demonstrating the use of layer masks in Photoshop so you can get a more deep understanding of what you can actually do with this technique.
