Premiere Pro CC – April 2017 a Look at the New Features

Last week Adobe introduced a number of updates for some of its products in the Creative Cloud suite with a pretty major update to the Premiere Pro CC (now version 2017).

Adobe keeps bringing interesting and useful innovations into its CC products and today we are going to look at some of the latest ones in Premiere Pro CC. Here is a partial list of the changes Adobe made in version 2017 (this is taken directly from the Adobe blog):

  • The Essential Graphics panel in Premiere Pro is a new Type tool which lets you place titles and graphics directly on the Program monitor with controls to change the font, size, and color of the text.
  • The new Motion Graphics templates bring the power of After Effects to Premiere Pro through easy-to-use and edit templates, allowing editors to add beautiful motion titles, animations and lower thirds to their videos which can be shared via Creative Cloud Libraries. Compositions created in After Effects can be saved as Motion Graphics templates, and then shared with Premiere Pro editors, where they can change variables such as text, color, size, layout or mood of the motion graphics—all within Premiere Pro.
  • Essential Sound Panel, now in Premiere Pro and Audition, lets users achieve audio mixes and sound improvements that in the past would have required a dedicated session by an audio engineer.
  • Enhanced interchange between Premiere Pro and Audition enables a unique workflow not possible with any other industry tools, including lossless transfer of native and third-party audio effect parameters and automation keyframes, track and submix routing, timeline metadata, and renderless Dynamic Link video streaming. New and updated audio effects across Audition and Premiere Pro provide parity across both apps.
  • Editors looking to monetize their work and reach millions of creative buyers can now submit video content directly to Adobe Stock via Destination Publishing in Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder. Destination Publishing to Adobe Stock gives users the opportunity to earn royalties and gain added exposure for their creative work. When a submission is accepted, contributors can track sales in real time via the Adobe Stock dashboard.

We really liked the new Essential Graphics panel (let’s face it the old text interface was horrible), we think that it still needs some work (we suggested to Adobe to just use the text panel from Photoshop and actually allow PP to edit text directly in Photoshop with a press of a button and return the text to PP just like you can do with sound in Audition).

But the biggest potential of this new update is definitely the Motion Graphics templates. If you are not an AE expert these things can have the potential to change the way you work. At the moment there are only very few templates coming with PP. However if Adobe will add a simple to use interface for a market where you can download templates from other users (or in other cases buy templates as well as watch them, comment and rank them) this can be a real game changer for many video editors using Adobe software (just our two cents after trying this new feature).
