The 8 Special Blending Modes In Photoshop

On this video Photoshop expert Jesús Ramirez (from the Photoshop training channel) demonstrates the 8 more special blending modes in Photoshop.

There are quite a few blend modes in Photoshop (about 27). Blending is a powerful tool that allows you to increase the potential of layers in Photoshop as they takes the colors of one layer and bled them with the other layer.

On this video Ramirez talks about 8 special blend modes which seems to behave differently when Fill Opacity is adjusted, compared to when standard Opacity is adjusted (note that for all of the other blend modes, Opacity looks the same as Fill).

Another difference that these 8 share is that they blend differently when you un-check “Transparency Shapes Layer” at the Advanced blending under the Layer Style Window.

this is the list of the 8 “spciel blend modes” in this group:

  1. Color Burn
  2. Linear Burn
  3. Color Dodge
  4. Linear Dodge (Add)
  5. Vivid Light
  6. Linear Light
  7. Hard Mix
  8. Difference

If you are interested in blend modes we highly recommend watching the video understanding blending modes in Photoshop as a  useful introduction to the subject also by Jesús Ramirez.
