The Quick Start Guide to Photoshop (Part 1)

On this first of a 3 part series for beginners, Photoshop expert Aaron Nace from Phlearn takes a look at some of the very basic things new Photoshop users need to know.

On this – part 1 of this miniIn the past Adobe Photoshop was a tool for advanced users and professionals who could afford the very high price of buying a full image editing software (close to a $1000 typically depending on the version and some other factors). Today with Adobe’s new photographer’s deal you can get both Photoshop and Lightroom for just $10 a month – thus allowing many more non professionals access to this software. This might be a great thing but the software is still complicated to use and this video series – is intended for first time users who are doing their first steps with the software.

When you are just getting started, Photoshop can seem overwhelming, but you have to remember that even the most professional users who have been working on the software for years do not know everything there is to know about it and even they started with very little knowledge and had their own learning curve and this does take time.

Nace starts with talking about keyboard shortcuts (a very important part of Photoshop and a great time saver). The next thing is preferences – Nace goes over some of the more important ones including color space, saving and more. The next subject is layers – one of the most basic and important building blocks of Photoshop. A related topic is blend modes which allows you to blend different layers and get some interesting results. The next subject is adjustment layers and layer masks and how to use them (in the most basic way).
