Do You Need to Transcode?

Greg Olson from videomaker recently published an interesting video dealing with a subject that we often get question about – video transcoding. This video will help you understand what transcoding means and whether or not you need it.

So what is transcoding? in the most basic terms, transcoding means converting a video from one encoding to another. Why would you like to do so? well there might be several reasons but the most common might be that your editing software does not support the encoder (for example the recent Samsung NX1 uses the new H.265 encoder which is not yet supported at this time by many video editing software). Another reason might be that your original file format might be very resource demanding and you might prefer to work with a less “heavy” encoding in order to make your editing work faster and less cumbersome.
