During IBC 2025, we had a chance to visit the OWC (Other World Computing) booth and talk to the company’s founder Larry O’Connor, about some of the company’s new products, including the dual 10GBE TB5 dock as well as other Thunderbolt 5 drives, such as the Envoy Ultra and ThunderBlade X12, software vs. hardware RAID and the coampny’s recent collaboration with Hedge.

The Envoy Ultra is a portable SSD that utilizes Thunderbolt 5 technology, offering data transfer speeds exceeding 6000MB/s. This is up to twice the speed of Thunderbolt 4 and USB4. Available in 2.0TB and 4.0TB capacities, the Envoy Ultra is designed for durability with an IP67 rating, making it crushproof, dustproof, and waterproof. It is a bus-powered device with a built-in Thunderbolt cable and a fanless, heat-dissipating aluminum design for silent operation. It is compatible with a variety of operating systems and devices, including Macs, PCs, iPad Pros, Chromebooks, and Surface devices.

ThunderBlade X12

The ThunderBlade X12 is a high-capacity, high-speed production RAID SSD. It delivers peak speeds of up to 6600MB/s and a sustained write speed of 5990MB/s. The device can be configured with a capacity of up to 96TB by utilizing 12 NVMe M.2 SSDs. It includes SoftRAID software for RAID management and is capable of daisy-chaining up to five additional Thunderbolt devices. The ThunderBlade X12 features a fanless aluminum chassis, non-skid rubber feet, and a locking power connector.
