Professional monitor manufacturer SmallHD from North Carolina just announced their upcoming 5 and 7 inch pro level monitors. These models boost an outstanding level of brightness that allows them to be fully visible in daylight even without
During BVE 2017 held in the U.K. SmallHD showcased a yet to be released monitor called the SmallHD 503 (as well as it’s larger brother – the 703). These monitors are the more advanced brothers of the existing 501/502 monitors by SmallHD which received very good reviews in the past.
The new 503 has is a 5-inch IPS monitor with a resolution of 1920×1080 and an unbelievable 2200nits of brightness. It also has an aluminium frame and optically bonded Gorilla Glass cover (which should make it extremely durable). In terms of inputs we are talking about 2-SDI, HDMI and in terms of outputs an SDI and HDMI.
In terms of power – this can be supplied via a LEMO connector or via a number of dedicated power plates for various batteries (we are still waiting to see a USB powered monitor).
The guys from ProAV TV have their look at the 503/703 monitors by SmallHD
This isn’t an entry level monitor and it is expensive – it will be available later this month for $2200 (with an adopter bundle), the 703 version with similar features (but with a 7″ display and a few more shortcut keys + an even higher brightness of 2500nits) will sell for $2600. Despite the high cost – if you are looking for a high end monitor with an exceptionally rugged body which you can view in any lighting conditions indoors or outdoors with a simple yet feature rich set – the new 503/703 monitors are worth a second look.
We will be looking into several monitors in the near future so stay tuned for that. If you don’t want to miss any new photography product be sure to check out our product photography section.
