SmallRig Folding Tool Set Review

Today we are going to take a look at s tiny tool developed by Smallrig to help you in almost any situation where you might need to open/lock tighten or lessen the most common screws of the photo and video industry.

How many times did you get stuck trying to screw a quick release to a camera just to realize that you don’t have a coin or a flathead screwdriver to tighten it down? How many times did you need a Torx or Allen Wrenches and found out that you don’t happen to have these exact ones at hand?

We love tools almost as much as we love photo and video accessories and we have dozens of different tools at home, in our shop and of course in our studio. We have countless multitools and different types of multi-head screwdrivers, Torx and Allen sets and we can open, close and rig or fix just about anything you can throw at us.

With that said, having a small compact and lightweight multitool with you at all times in your photo bag, is no less important and we bought a few of those over the years as well – each with their own advantages.

SmallRig Folding Tool Set – tiny but useful

The SmallRig Folding Tool Set is really tiny, measuring 8cm long (3″) and 2cm (under 1″) wide. It has 7 functional tools including 4 Allen Wrenches ( 2.5, 3, 4, 3/16 ), 1 wide flathead, 1 Phillips screwdriver, and 1 Torx T25 driver. You also have a 1/4″ 20 screw thread on the side as well as M2.5, M3, M4, M5 threads if you need to check screw sizes or just store spare screws for a short time so they won’t get lost. Finally, it has a tiny thread mount if you want to connect it to your key chain.

For us, the most useful part of this Folding Tool Set has been the wide flathead (over 1cm wide) which is quite thick as well. This is great for locking quick releases when needed and although it isn’t perfect for any type of flat head screw – it will work in the majority of situations.

Besides the SmallRig Folding Tool Set there is one other tool that we carry in all times in our rolling camera bag and that is the Platinum Tools 8-in-1 Ratcheted Stubby Screwdriver. It isn’t as small as the Smallrig and it can take a few more seconds to take out the right head for the job, however, it does have a ratchet mechanism and this is something that can be so useful at times that we just can give it up.

The SmallRig Folding Tool Set is extremely affordable, selling for just under $20 and given how well it worked for us we can defiantly highly recommend it.

Can help you fix/connect almost any camera-related gear
