During IBC 2023 Godox showcased several interesting prototypes of lights including two new prototypes of advanced hogh-power professional RGB panels from the P600 series.
A little background. Godox has been making professional high-power panels for quite some time now. Last year we tested the LD series which was the first generation of panels from the company (we are still using two of them on a regular basis in the studio) and earlier this year the company released the first light from its new P series of high power panels the P600 which we are testing at the moment (that version is bi-color panel).
The two prototypes that we have seen at IBC this year expand the P600 family into RGB with soft and hard variants that include even more advanced technologies.
Godox P600R (Soft)
The first of the two lights shown on IBC was the P600R Soft. The unit that we have seen comes as a 2×1 (we would not be shocked to see a future 1×1 variant of this light as well although we have no specific knowledge of such a model in development at the moment).
This light has a front diffusion that can be removed and the light itself has all of its components built in (so no ballast and no power bricks just AC cable). Talking about power as a 600W+ light it can only be powered from AC so no battery option is available.
On the plus side, the light has 8 pixels for what Godox is calling smoother light transitions (you can use them for effects but with just 8 in a panel you will probably need more than one panel to produce a usable effect).
The light has a very wide temperature range going all the way from 1800K to 10,000K and it has a color monitor on the back and will support Godox’s advanced remote as well as the Godox light app.
The P600R soft (the soft is not officially in the product name but it is a good way to distinguish it from the second light showcased in IBC this year) is a full RGB and it includes DMX as well as wireless DMX control options built-in.
Godox P600R Hard
The second prototype showcased in IBC this year was the P600R Hard. This unit comes in a 1X1 form factor (again we would not be surprised if in the future a 2X1 version will also appear). The basic features of this prototype are very similar to the P600R (soft) but it includes special lenses on the diodes that focus the light resulting in a more intensity and narrower beam.
The P600R Hard has no diffusion panel (this is true for the P600bi that we are testing at the moment although you can get a special softbox for the light).
Being a 1X1 it only has a 4-pixel alignment but the rest of the features are basically identical to the P600R soft.
Pricing and availability
The two panels showcased in IBC this year were prototypes and do not come with a price tag, however, according to Godox they should both be available later this year so there is not going to be a long wait until more details will be published on both.
