OBSBOT – Behind the AI PTZ revolution
OBSBOT was founded in 2016 with the goal of integrating Artificial Intelligence into videography and live production tools. Headquartered in Shenzhen, China, the company’s core mission is to revolutionize how people capture and create images by developing innovative, autonomous camera systems. OBSBOT is best known for its line of AI-powered auto-tracking cameras and webcams, starting from the compact Tiny series wall the way up to the production-level Tail series, offering features like gesture control, auto-zoom, and precise subject tracking, making dynamic professional-level video production and high-quality streaming more accessible to content creators and businesses worldwide.

- PTZR Design with 90° Rotation: The camera features a unique three-axis gimbal system that includes an ‘R-axis’ (Rotate), allowing the lens to physically rotate 90 degrees. This enables the capture of seamless, native 4K vertical (portrait) video without quality loss, a significant feature for modern social media and mobile-first content.
- AI Tracking 2.0: The upgraded deep neural network algorithm provides precise human, animal (over 30 types), and object (over 200 types) tracking. Key modes include:
- “Only Me” Mode: Ensures unwavering focus on a selected subject, even if briefly obscured.
- Group Tracking: Intelligently frames multiple subjects within the shot.
- Customized Axis Tracking: Allows independent control of the Pan and Tilt speed.
- Broadcast-Level Connectivity: Unlike its portable counterparts, the Tail 2 includes a robust array of professional I/O ports:
- Full-size HDMI 2.0 Output
- 3G-SDI Output
- RJ45 Ethernet Port (supports PoE+)
- USB-C 3.0 (UVC output and power)
- Dual 3.5mm Audio Jacks (Microphone Input and Line Input)
- RS-232 Ports (for VISCA, Pelco-D/P control)
- Protocol Support: Supports industry-standard protocols for integration into complex workflows, including NDI|HX3, SRT, RTMP, RTSP, VISCA over IP, and FreeD (for AR/VR production).
- Low-Light Performance: The large 1/1.5-inch sensor, combined with a 2μm pixel size and an exclusive AI noise reduction algorithm, is designed to enhance image quality and reduce noise in low-light environments.
- Tally Light: Features a dual-color Tally light on the front and back for real-time monitoring of live stream or recording status.

Latest Updates
OBSBOT is constantly working on adding more features to the Tail 2 via firmware updates – here are a few recent ones:
- Latency Reduction: Firmware updates have been released to reduce HDMI/SDI latency for more responsive live monitoring and streaming.
- Enhanced Image Control: Added features such as “ONE PUSH White Balance” for quick calibration and “Auto Brightness Compensation” to automatically adjust ISO during zoom changes in manual mode.
- Gimbal Control: Introduction of Gimbal Smoothness Adjustment to allow for slow start and stop when moving the gimbal, eliminating jarring transitions.
- Protocol Refinements: Expanded support for fractional frame rates via 3G-SDI and optimized VISCA over IP protocol, including the ability to enable/disable AI tracking remotely.
