This video tutorial by portrait photographer Nathaniel Dodson (from the website tutvid) takes a look at how to add Bokeh to existing image to give the background a little bit more interest.
In case you didn’t know the term Bokeh comes from the Japanese word boke which means “blur” or “haze”. A good or bad Bokeh might be subjective but it typically refers to the way points of light look in the out of focus portion of the image.
Dodson starts with a base light layer and then create a specific Bokeh layer, add it as a new layer and then add a color layer and blur both of them as well as add a bit of noise to them.
You can check another way of adding Bokeh to your image using Photoshop on a different video created by Howard Pinsky entitled “How to Create Bokeh in Photoshop“.
