Clean Up Your Landscapes With Frequency Separation

On this video, photographer Jimmy McIntyre looks at working on cleaning up landscape images using frequency separation technique in Photoshop.

Landscape and cityscape photographers (unlike portrait photographers) rarely use frequency separation. The idea is simple – create a duplicate layer (twice), we shall call one global and the second local. We will add blur to the global layer and use subtract in apply image like  McIntyre  shows in the image and now you choose the top layer to linear light.

For this specific image McIntyre use removes dust using frequency separation as well as the flare in parts of the image using the same techniques – just follow the steps McIntyre shows in the video.

We have looked at frequency separation techniques many times in the past for including “The Amazing Power of Frequency Separation Retouching in Photoshop“, “Changing Makeup with Frequency Separation in Photoshop“,  “How to Fix Shiny Skin in Photoshop” and “How to Retouch Lips Using Photoshop“.
