How to Clean a Background in Photoshop

Here is a common problem that many studio photographers run into almost all the time – the white background gets dirty – especially the lower part where people tend to step. How do you fix that? Aaron Nace from Phlearn has a simple solution using the magic of Photoshop.

Our backdrop in our studio is almost always dirty. During a shoot people walk on it with their shoes and no matter what we do we can’t seem to keep it clean (and yes we roll it and change constantly but it helps only for a short while). So what can you do? instead of fighting it, there are things that you can do in Photoshop to fix this. Instead of using the clone stamp, healing brush or any other similar tool, Nace suggest the noise filter called median.

The results when working with a layer and a mask seems really good and with a little bit of touch ups later on you can get an image clean in no time – fast and effective!
