There are a ton of sophisticated ways to sharpen an image in Photoshop, but if you want something super quick and simple you can use the sharpen tool – however you do need to know how to use it which is what Portrait photographer Nathaniel Dodson (from the website tutvid) demonstrates in this super quick video.
The sharpening tool has been in Photoshop for years – the problem is that if you are not careful you will get very poor over sharpened results when using it. If you do want some local sharpening done quickly there is a way around this – use the protect details box and you will not have this issue (although you still need to be careful with the amount of sharpening you apply of course).
