How to Remove Backgrounds in Photoshop Elements

On this basic video Bob Gager, Group Product Manager for Photoshop Elements, demonstrates how to remove backgrounds from a part of an image using Adobe Photoshop elements 13.

The first part is making a selection of the area you want to remove. The second stage is adding a layer mask. This mask automatically removes the unselected area. What is nice about this as a contrary to actually deleting the unwanted area is that you can use a white brush to fine tune your selection (or add back some of the parts you cut out if you decide that you do want them) or use a black bush to remove unwanted parts – just like an eraser.

Notice that this tutorial should work for the most part with more or less any version of Adobe Photoshop Elements and not just the latest version (and the same basic principals apply to Photoshop itself).
