Removing Red-Eye in Photoshop (and Fixing Teeth the Easy Way)

On this video tutorial Aaron Nace from Phlearn shows how to quickly and easily remove red eyes using Photoshop and as a final bonus demonstrates a quick way to fix a missing tooth as well.

Red-Eye happens when a photo is taken with a flash that is too close to the subject. This is very common for on-camera flashes for that reason. To avoid this you can use a flash which is off camera or bouncing the flash light from the ceiling.

In case you were not able to avoid red-eyes you will need to fix them in post. Using the spot healing brush tool, go down to the bottom of the menu to select the red-eye tool. This tool works best when set to a 50% pupil size and a 50% darken amount. Click and drag around the eye, and let go. We do have one extra tip. Don’t try this on low res images – the results will typically not going to be too good.

We have looked at fixing red-eyes many times in the past. We published Bryan O’Neil Hughes take on fixing red-eyes in Photoshop last year as well as How to Fix Pet Eyes in Photoshop.
