Cool DIY – Making Magic with a Silver Screen

On this Adorama video, photographer Mark Wallace uses a very simple metal window screen and with the help of some light (with a grid) to create an interesting looking creative portraits.

This video looks at a simple yet creative use of an inexpensive product you can get almost anywhere – a mesh metal net for a window. The net reflects some of the light and creates an interesting look when lit from the side. Wallace uses a single light with a softbox  (a larger one would be better in this case).

One important thing – if you want to show the face through the net you need to have the mesh net perpendicular to the light.

It is also important to share your results with the model during the shoot if possible (if you have the option shoot tethered), this way it will be easier for the model to adapt to the light.
