Laws of Light: Lighting Three Objects

On this video, part of a series called “laws of light” by photographer Jay P. Morgan from the website the Slanted Lens we look at lighting three different objects.

On this video we look at lighting and shooting a ball a cube and a cylinder. If this sounds like a bit of a strange choice of shapes think about the human body and how it is shaped as well as objects such as tables or buildings which we often shoot as well and what are there shape). It is worth mentioning the two previous videos in this series which we published here in case you missed them.

The whole idea of this video is to show you how light effect different shapes from different angles and how shadows appear on different shapes and influence one another to create depth in your image. This is something that you need to be competently aware of and if you practice and experiment with it – it might be able to improve your shooting considerably.

We would also highly recommend that you watch these two other videos which are also sort of introductions to lighting which we published a few years back –  Basic Portrait Lighting Techniques and A Look at the Five Main Portraiture Lighting Patterns.

You can find lot more lighting tutorials on our photography lighting section here on LensVid, and you can find all of Jay P. Morgan’s videos here on LensVid on the following link.
