A Look at Sigma New Cine Lens Line and the 3 New Zeiss Milvus Lenses

Photokina 2016 will open in just over a week from now and all the manufacturers are gearing up to launch their new products for the show. Two companies which already announced new products are Sigma and Zeiss with interesting set of new lenses.

Let’s start with Sigma which released no less than 8 new lenses ranging from 20-85mm primes (including 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm) plus 2 zoom lenses with focal lengths of 18-35mm and 50-100mm. If these focal lengths sound familiar it is since these are basically the same optical specs of the ART line of lenses but Sigma has done some serious work on the body’s of the lenses to make them better suited for professional video and cinema work.

All the new lenses include:

  • FF coverage for the primes and super 35mm for the zooms (aprt from the 24-35mm which is also FF).
  • T1.5 aperture for the primes and T2 for the zooms (apart from the 24-35mm which is T2.2.).
  • 95mm or 82mm filter diameter for all lenses.
  • Optional manual iris control.
  • Long throw ring 180° or 160° for more accurate focusing.

The new Sigma Cine lenses will be believable in both EF and Sony E mount, PL mounts will come later on. All the new Sigma lenses are dust/weatherproofed and use a special luminous paint markings for operating in the dark.

No pricing was given for the new sigma lenses at this time (more on the lenses can be found on Sigma’s website).
