Sigma announced earlier today a new ultra-wide zoom lens from its Contemporary series – the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN. Aimed at a wide range of users this lens was designed to be both a compact and affordable wide zoom option for E and L mount cameras.
Sigma 16-28mm – what you need to know
The new Sigma lens was designed as a complement wide zoom for Sigma’s 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN creating a very light and small kit set for the photographer on the go.
The new lens weighs only 450g and is just a hair over 10cm long (and it does not extend when zooming). It has 9 rounded blades, 72mm filter thread
In terms of optical design, the lens has 16 elements in 11 groups including FLD and 4 aspherical lens elements. The minimum focusing distance is 25cm and it has a maximum magnification of 1:5.6.
