Ulanzi Bags, Tripods and Production Cart (IBC 2023) Upcoming Ulanzi products

During IBC 2023 we had a chance to take a look at several interesting upcoming products by Ulanzi that have been expanding into new product categories, some of which are quite exciting in our view. In this video, Conrad Broeders from Ulanzi showcases several prototypes of tripods, bags, and an upcoming production cart.

Tripods

The tripod market is filled with options. Creating a  new offering that will bring innovation to this market is not simple. During IBC Ulanzi showed two prototypes – the first is a larger video tripod with fast opening legs and what looks like a pretty robust video head.

The second is a travel tripod with a small fluid head with some interesting innovations such as a screwdriver and bits in the handle, different 1/4″ 20 connectors for accessories (with Arri pin holes!), and a very compact and lightweight design.

We are currently testing one of Ulanzi’s tripods and we shall release a review in a few weeks.

Production Cart

Our personal favorite of all of Ulanzi’s upcoming products is the production cart. On IBC 2023 we saw a lot of production carts from different manufacturers but most of them are or will be when released pretty expensive (typically $1500 and above with some of the higher-end ones selling for over $3K).

The problem is that these prices do not make sense for smaller productions and here is where we expect the upcoming Ulanazi cart to fill the gap (we don’t have exact pricing but it looks like the basic cart will sell for well under $1500).

The unit shown at IBC  this year is still a prototype and Broeders told us that the company is still working on improving the handle and developing a full range of accessories for the cart. We do know that the entire unit (without accessories) weighs in at around 30kg/66LBS.

Bags

If the tripod market is filled with options then the camera bag market looks like a never-ending stream of sizes, shapes, and quality levels.

Two things immediately got our attention with the two new upcoming prototype bags shown on the Ulanzi booth this year. The first is a smaller reporter bag which seems to be made of an interesting material and includes quite a few pockets, pouches, and compartments both externally and internally as well as a side opener and room for a 15″ laptop. The second is a larger backpack is 34L backpack with a harder construction with a lot more room for both camera gear and personal items and even more pockets internally and externally, backloading, and a pouch in the hip strap.

Pricing and availability

As noted above all of these products should be ready before the end of the year and at the moment pricing is given only for the two new bags the smaller reporter bag will retail for around $110 and the 34L backpack for under $150.
