IBC 2025 Coverage

We are heading for the IBC 2025 trade show in Amsterdam, just like we did last year, and we will bring you exclusive coverage from the show and the many new products on display, so please stay tuned!

Viltrox K90 and P12 Tube Lights (upcoming review)

We are currently in the process of reviewing two Viltrox tube lights. The larger K90 and the smaller pixel tube light in the form of the P12. They are very similar in terms of operation, but the K90 is larger, a lot more powerful, comes in a case (as a dual kit), with slightly better color rendering, and faster charging.

The review will have to wait until we return from IBC 2025, but it is coming, so stay tuned.

A dual K90 kit sells for a little over $200.

The P12 also sells as a kit of two (we only have a single unit) for just under $150.

The fixture is compatible with the Sidus Link ecosystem and supports professional control methods, including LumenRadio CRMX wireless DMX. The Aputure Storm 400x sells for approximately $1,060 USD.

The Aputure CF7 Fresnel is a lens modifier accessory for the Storm 400x, designed to intensify the light’s output and provide a directional, adjustable beam. Atomos Ninja TX

The Atomos NinjaTX marks a significant evolution from the older Ninja V series, introducing a suite of advanced features tailored for modern cloud-based workflows. Unlike the Ninja V, which was limited to HDMI I/O and capped at 4K60 ProRes RAW, the NinjaTX supports both dual 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0, enabling 8K30 ProRes RAW recording and seamless SDI/HDMI cross-conversion. It also adds NDI HX3, Bluetooth timecode sync, and Wi-Fi 6E, none of which were available on the Ninja V.

Storage options have expanded from SATA SSDs to CFexpress Type B and USB-C SSDs, offering faster and more flexible media handling. The NinjaTX also runs on the new AtomOS Linux platform, allowing deeper integration with cloud services like Frame.io and Dropbox, and supports real-time uploads of H.265 proxy files — a major leap from the offline workflows of the Ninja V. Additionally, the display is brighter at 1500 nits, compared to the Ninja V’s 1000 nits, and includes enhanced monitoring tools like AR false color and IR-based exposure aids.

Pricing is approximately $1,000 USD

Godox AD 400 II

The Godox AD400Pro II builds on the original AD400Pro with meaningful upgrades aimed at speed, control, and versatility. While both models offer 400Ws of output and high-speed sync up to 1/8000s, the AD400Pro II introduces a 10-stop power range (down to 1/512) versus the original’s 9 stops, allowing finer exposure control. It also features a Freeze Mode with ultra-short flash durations as fast as 1/27,770s, compared to the AD400Pro’s 1/12,820s — ideal for freezing motion in high-speed photography. Recycle times are slightly faster, maxing out at 1 second at full power. The new model adds a bi-color 30W LED modeling lamp (2800K–6000K) with PROP and Constant modes, offering more flexibility for video and mixed lighting setups.

Wireless control has also improved: the AD400Pro II supports 16 groups (up from 5) with color-coded group indicators, simplifying multi-light management. It retains compatibility with Godox’s 2.4GHz X system and now supports the new X3 trigger for one-tap sync. The unit includes both Godox and Bowens mounts, and a USB-C port for firmware updates and optional accessories. Battery life is slightly better, delivering up to 460 full-power flashes per charge.

Pricing is approximately $650 USD.
