Photoshop expert Howard Pinsky demonstrates how to create a quick composition from two images using Photoshop.
Sometimes you have a great looking image but the background isn’t particularly interesting. On this quick video tutorial, Pinsky demonstrates how you can quickly take a part of one image and implant it into a second image and still keep everything looking as realistic as possible.
We start with making a selection, refine edge to improve it, output to a layer mask and add your background image and fix any areas which look a bit off. Now we need to fix the colors which might be a bit off by adding a curve adjustment layer. In the next step you can add a gradient map adjustment layer and use an overlay of soft light blend mode. Finally you can add a just a little bit of blur to the background.
Sounds complicated? Pinsky was able to show how you can do this in less than 3 min!
We have been looking at compositing a few times in the past here on LensVid including on “Compositing in Photoshop: an In-Depth Look” by photographer Gavin Hoey and “Behind the Scenes Compositing: A Dark Force” by Aaron Nace .
