How to Add a Tan to Your Model in Photoshop

On this video tutorial Aaron Nace from Phlearn demonstrates how to create artificial tan using Adobe Photoshop.

According to Nace: “The real key to changing skin tone is to focus on the highlights and shadows separately. Some effects will look great over the highlights, but will be too strong on the shadows”. The basic technique he demonstrates in this video is using the ‘Blend if’ sliders to adjust layer visibility based on highlights and shadows.

The last step is to fine tune the color using a ‘Selective Color’ adjustment layer and choose ‘Reds’ from the drop-down list. Using the sliders, fine tune the amount of cyan, magenta, yellow and black to get the perfect tan color.
