How To Create a Dreamy Orton Effect in Photoshop

Photographer Jimmy McIntyre published this short video on how to create a dreamy looking Orton effect in Photoshop.

As we have noted in our previous video on the Orton effect by our colleague photographer Steve Perry: “The Orton effect gives images a sort of soft, dreamy, glowing feel. Of course this kind of look isn’t necessarily right for every image (not even every landscape image) and you might choose to include it in just small part of the image but it does give the image a unique look”.

McIntyre shows two ways of adding this effect in Photoshop – either simply by adding another layer and use the screen blending layer and add blurring. The other is using McIntyre’s Raya Pro add on for Photoshop.

We recently published a few videos by McIntyre, looking at the Raya Pro which you can check – here. The Raya Pro cost between $30 and $90 depending on the exact version and you can find them here.
