Earlier this month photographer Jimmy McIntyre published this short video on how to enhance the details in your images using two different methods in Photoshop.
The first method is very simple – using McIntyre’s own Raya Pro add on for Photoshop. However since this is a paid add-on McIntyre was kind enough to show us all a way of doing the same thing in Photoshop without the add-on as well (this might take more time but if you already have Photoshop should cost you nothing).
You start by duplicating your image layer (using cmd J/cntrl J, on MAC/PC), open a black and white layer and we merge down and use blend mode (hard light or vivid light) now we go to filter>other>high-pass (you can play with the radius here). Now create a layer mask and with a white paint brush you can increase details locally – that’s it!
We recently published a few videos by McIntyre, looking at the Raya Pro which you can check – here. The Raya Pro cost between $30 and $90 depending on the exact version and you can find them here. McIntyre also has a set of free luminosity mask actions which you can download from this link if you want to try them out (if you don’t know what luminosity mask do – check out this video – it is pretty cool).
