On this video photographer Glyn Dewis take a close look at a problem that many of us face on some occasions when we need to shoot through a fence and we simply have no other option. In such cases whether it is a park or a zoo there is something you can do to the image in Photoshop to remove the problems the fence is causing.
Dewis starts with an image of a lion behind a fence. This can be a complex fix so make sure you do this whenever you have an image that is otherwise good but the fence is the main problem. Dewis uses color range in Photoshop as well as a few other tools to clear the fence lines from the lion. The problem is that the lines still exist on the grass and the general background and while you can try to use the same technique for those areas as well it is a lot of work so you might consider simply cutting the lion out and using it on a different background.
What we take out of this video is that you should try and avoid shooting behind a fence as much as possible if you don’t want tons of work editing the image afterwards – just try not getting inside the lion’s cage for that…
