Orton Effect – Giving your Image a Dreamy Look

Photographer Steve Perry (from backcountrygallery)  published earlier this year a video showing how to use what is known as the Orton effect in Photoshop.

The Orton effect gives images a sort of soft, dreamy, glowing feel. Of course this kind of look isn’t necessarily right for every image (not even every landscape image) and you might choose to include it in just small part of the image which is exactly what Perry demonstrates in the workflow he shows in the video.

In the past we have covered other interesting effects including the Dragan Effect  after Polish photographer Andrzej Dragan whose works has very high contrast and color style and create a strong dramatic look with a bit of HDR-style typically on portraits.
