On this very quick video Howard Pinsky looks at the concept of smart objects in Photoshop and why and how to use them.
Now, although Pinsky talks in this video about image editing and graphics in general and not necessary about editing photographs the main points are still relevant. So here are the 3 things that smart objects can do for you:
- Preserve the data of your original layers
- Apply editable filters and adjustments
- Update multiple layers at once
This isn’t the first time that we have been looking at smart objects (and smart filters) in Photoshop. A few years back we had a video by Photoshop’s senior product manager Bryan O’Neil Hughes which also looked at smart objects and how to use them and on a previous video by Julieanne Kost from Adobe we looked at How to Use Adobe Camera Raw as a Smart Filter in Photoshop.
